Traditions of the finest Nordic craftsmanship applied to contemporary design
Nikari’s name is a play on the river that is located by — the Nikkarinkoski River — meaning “the river stream of the cabinet maker”.
Founded in 1967, Nikari combines modern design with the traditions of Finnish craftsmanship to create beautiful, long-lasting wooden furniture. Beyond high-quality design and functionality, their methods incorporate sustainable production.
The wood Nikari uses is mainly supplied by a local sawmill and most comes from Northern European forests tended with the principles of sustainability and biodiversity. The materials used to treat the wood surfaces tend to be ecological and natural, such as oil, waxes and soap. In addition to extensive efforts to use high quality and ecological materials, much thought is given to extending their products’ lifecycle with replaceable parts where possible.
